Being famous online isn’t as straight forward as it seems’- that was the hard truth that hit me when I was also on my quest to stardom and fame on the internet. My lack of strategy and lack of planning was really the bane of my undoing and it got me frustrated. Let me share with you some of the tips and tricks that helped me gain online popularity in no time.

Steps to Become Online Famous

  • Use the right media for the right audience
  • Stick to your niche or expertise
  • Be devoted
  • Schedule your time
  • Be original
  • Be creative
  • Be Passionate
  • Engage your followers
  • Be consistent with your brand
  • Be patient

Use the Right Media for the Right Audience

Different audience appreciates different forms of getting what they want from the internet. For example:

‘Audience 1’- likes to have their ear piece on and continue with other things on their table

‘Audience 2’- prefers to read

‘Audience 3’- likes pictures

‘Audience 4’- wants to watch videos

In this scenario, podcasts and audio recordings will be the preferred media for Audience 1, a blog for Audience 2, Instagram for Audience 3 and YouTube might be the best option for Audience 4. In my case, I had to learn the hard way that a video (YouTube) was best suited in delivering a tutorial, instead of a lengthy text and pictures.

Stick to your Niche or Expertise

Choose a niche that you are familiar with or have expertise in. Picking a niche you are not familiar with will eventually show in the quality of post you create. If you are in a niche that you are comfortable with, creating content for your audience will come naturally to you.

Be Devoted

Dedicate enough resources required for the task at hand. Becoming online famous in not going to come easy; it demands time, attention, consistency and it might require you to learn new skills. You need to be ready to give everything it takes to be popular. Do not be lazy about doing your research on what your followers want, creating original contents or engaging your followers- your dedication will pay of eventually.

Schedule Your Time

I decided to make more videos when I realized my followers were increasing on YouTube. But I was immediately overwhelmed by the quantity of videos I had to make. The answer to being overwhelmed is to schedule your time. You can make some videos in the early hours of the morning, clean them up in the afternoon and get them ready to be posted at night.

Be Original

People love originality. They are able to tell if you are repeating something others have said. If you keep rehashing content, your audience will eventually get bored. This is why you should stick with a niche that you are familiar with. You will find it easy to create original content and not get stuck.

Be Creative

Let your passion and creativity shine through. Try to make your post spectacular. If you are getting ideas from others, try to present it from a new angle. This will make your post unique and intriguing.

Be Passionate

Make your followers know how passionate you are about your brand. Make content that reveals your love and how much of an expert you are in your niche. Do not appear casual with your usage of words or expressions- make sure to impress your audience with how passionate you are when posting comments. People tend to follow others who are passionate about an idea or a brand. Your passion might even ignite the passion in others.

Engage Your Followers

You need to stir discussions, reply comments, organize contests and even offer freebies to your fans and followers. This is a way to keep your fans engaged and passionate about your brand.
One happy follower might get you 3 more followers.

Be Consistent With Your Brand

It is good practice for you to have accounts with more than 1 social media- your brand will be visible to more followers. But ensure that you are consistent with your brand across all platforms.
You can set up a blog, have accounts on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn but use the same details (like your profile picture, username, brand logo) for all the platforms.

Be Patient

The key to building presence on social media is patience. Like everything in live, growth is a gradually process. Focus on creating new content and engaging your users. Give them something to talk about, lMarh about and share. The more they share their content to their friends, the more exposure you will get, but it all begins with you. Keep putting out quality content and you will be amazed at the traction you will grow in no time.
